About the Captain

Hi, I'm Capt. Alan Sauerland owner and operator of Instigator  Sportfishing.  I am a fully licensed and insured charter captain  providing sport fishing charters from the port of Wilson, NY on Western  Lake Ontario. I've been fishing the Great Lakes since the early 90's.  I  started fishing Lake Ontario in 1998 in a 16' Sylvan boat, that boat  only lasted for about two weeks after hooking my first King Salmon, a  28lber. Since then I have gone through several boats and countless  dollars pursuing King Salmon.  I earned my Captains License in 2000, but  didn't use it professionally until 2011.  I am now offering Trout and  Salmon fishing charters from the home port of Wilson, NY.  I spend as  much time fishing as I can, and every minute away from the lake is spent  thinking about fishing. Fishing is not what I do, It's who I am. 

Exciting News for 2019!  The New "Instigator" a 1994 Pursuit 3100 is currently being rigged and will be in the water in early April.  This boat is 31' in length with a 12' beam.  She has a full hardtop and brand new canvas, is rigged with brand new Scotty electric downriggers, Cannon Tracks and Cannon ratcheting rod holders.  Furuno and Raymarine electronics as well as Fish Hawk X4D for speed and temp at depth.   Mostly Okuma rods and reels.  Full stand up head for comfort and privacy.  Her twin 454's will get us to the fish faster and offer a more comfortable ride through rougher seas.
